This conveying screw element is designed for abrasive glass fiber reinforced polymer compounding applications, including PA, PC, PBT, PET and PP formulations. Its wear-resistant material and accurately machined flight profile help maintain stable material conveying as the screw element is exposed to continuous glass fiber abrasion.
It is suitable for replacing worn conveying sections in co-rotating twin screw extruders without necessarily replacing the complete screw set.
The screw element is available in CPM 10V, a high-alloy tool steel selected for applications involving severe abrasive wear. After controlled heat treatment, the material provides a balanced combination of hardness, wear resistance and dimensional stability.
Compared with conventional nitrided steel, CPM 10V can provide improved resistance to flight wear when processing glass fiber reinforced compounds.
The conveying flight geometry is manufactured according to the required screw diameter, lead, flight depth and element length. The profile supports stable material transfer and helps maintain output as the element wears during long-term operation.
Configurations can be selected according to the polymer type, glass fiber content, feeding method and required conveying capacity.
The accurately matched profile promotes self-wiping action between the two screws. This helps reduce material stagnation, residue and localized overheating, which is particularly important when processing temperature-sensitive materials such as PC and PBT.
Each screw element is precision CNC machined according to the supplied drawing, sample or confirmed technical dimensions. Critical dimensions, including the outer diameter, length, bore and spline profile, are inspected to support accurate installation on the existing screw shaft.
The element surface is finished to reduce material adhesion and facilitate cleaning during formulation or color changeovers. Surface roughness requirements can be controlled according to the application and customer specification.
