This project involves the refurbishment and redesign of a 223mm inner bore polymerization barrel used in POM (polyoxymethylene) production, originally from the Italian Maris 223 twin screw extruder.
The client required a full performance restoration of a worn barrel and the design of an upgraded replacement that could withstand the demanding chemical and thermal stresses of polymerization extrusion.

Instead of conventional nitriding or surface hardening, ZHITIAN applied advanced laser cladding technology to the barrel’s inner surface.
The cladded layer, composed of nickel-based tungsten carbide (Ni-WC) metal ceramic, forms a dense metallurgical bond with the base material, providing:
